BEACHES AND LOCAL ATTRACTIONS NUSA LEMBONGAN & CENNIGAN

Jungut Batu Beach

This beach is the main strip and the longest beach on Nusa Lembongan. It is a white sandy beach protected by a reef barrier. The lagoon is perfect and sage to swim at high tide.

Coconut Beach also called Song Lambung Beach

It is a tiny sliver of sand in a deep curvy bay looking out to Playground surfbreak. This is the closest spot to paddle out from: a couple of stalls on the beach rent surfboards and stand up paddles. Safe for swimming and snorkelling. Reach Coconut Bay either by following the trail that runs along the headland from Jungut Batu or Tamarind Beach – each is about a 10 minute walk away.

Mangrove Beach

It runs along the north coast of Nusa Lembongan and provides some of the best views to Bali. Once the dominion of seaweed farmers, this pretty strip of golden sandy beach runs up to the mangrove forest, and some remnants of the seaweed can still be seen along the shallows. A handful of basic seafood warungs line its length and closer to the mangroves, a scattering of ‘beach clubs’, making this a good choice for a seafood barbecue and a sundowner or three. You can reach here on foot from Jungut Batu, though it’s a long walk, or by bicycle or motorbike.

Dream Beach

It is the most popular stretch of sand on the island of Nusa Lembongan. It is a wonderful secluded beach with powdery, white sand. This is not a swimming beach for children or novices as the undertow is intense and the swell can be battering, but when the sea is calmer, the bodysurfing is good. Past the break the water is deep and can be exhausting, is beautiful. The surf is powerful and the current can be strong. Not suitable for children.

Sandy Bay or Sunset Beach

on the western coast of Nusa Lembongan is super quiet. This is due mostly to the fact that wild seas and strong currents make it quite dangerous to swim, but for grazing we think its raw beauty is pretty darn lovely.

Mushroom Beach

It is Nusa Lembongan’s most popular destination for daytrippers, with large pontoons offering all kinds of water sports moored off the bay. Serene early mornings and late afternoons are most pleasant times to enjoy the beach here. It has a great family/calm atmosphere to the entire bay with a range of restaurants along the strip.

Tamarind Beach

It is located in between Playground’s surf break and Mushroom Bay. Tamarind Beach offers a sophisticated taste of island life in these deluxe waterfront houses steps from crystal blue waters and coral reefs.

Devil’s Tear

Continuing anticlockwise, between Sandy Bay and Dream Beach is Nusa Lembongan’s most dramatic stretch of coast, and Devil’s Tear is as spectacular as it is dangerous. Witness nature at its wildest as dazzling blue seas violently crash the craggy bluff. The large and unpredictable waves that pound the escarpment have swept more than one tourist to their death (hence the signs). Take heed.

Devil’s Tears Cliff Jump

Devil’s Tears is a popular sunset spot and tourist spot in general on Nusa Lembongan. It’s only about 3-4 meters where you can jump, when small swell! The waves here smash into the cliffs so be careful on a day of big swell.

Dream Beach Cliff Jump

When facing out to the ocean from the shore the right-hand side of the bay has a long rocky coastline stretching several hundred metres. If you wander out 2/3 of the way along the coast you will find a bit of a clearing. On a calm day, you can see the water is quite deep here. Things change underwater daily. Reef shifts, rocks move. Make sure you always do your own checks and don’t blindly follow what you read online. There is a nice jump about 5-metres high with Dream Beach perfectly in the background. You will need to wear shoes or reef shoes to help you climb out as the rocks are quite sharp. Other than the rocks and the necessary depth check its quite a fun cliff jump spot and will never be crowded….probably ever.

Gala-Gala Underground House

Nusa Lembongan’s Underground House, is a truly unique attaction. Basically it’s a 500-square-metre hole in the ground, or a labyrinth of tunnels to be exact, dug entirely by hand, with steep, narrow entrances and rooms. Signage at the site explains that Made was inspired by an episode from the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, where the heroes of the tale, the Pandawas, hide in a forest cave for 12 years. It took 15 years of carving into limestone coral to complete this incredible labyrinth which includes bedrooms, a dining room, kitchen, batchroom and a sacred meditation room.

Mangrove Forest

Northern Noosa Lembongan has an extensive forest of mature mangroves which can be explored in a junking outrigger boat. Also great for families at high tide as perfect lagoon for kids swimming.

Panorama Point

Enjoy the panoramic view of Jungutbatu Village from the top of the hill. One of the best spots to watch the Sunrise or Sunset on the Island.

Yellow Bridge

The new bridge that was rebuilt to replace the old bridge that collapsed in mid-December 2016 should not be missed by any visitor. You can walk or bike across the bridge to the neighbour Island Nusa Ceningan.

Nusa Ceningan

Nusa Ceningan is a small tropical island, which is part of Bali in Indonesia. The island is nestled between popular Nusa Lembongan and the large island of Nusa Penida.

The Nusa Ceningan Blue Lagoon

Is a rocky cove of the brightest blue water I’ve laid my eyes on. The Blue Lagoon isn’t just for looking at, you will find a prime cliff jumping spot at the entrance of the cove. There are relatively safe jumps from heights of 4m, 6m, 8m and 13m. The water was very deep and we didn’t could see the bottom was way too far to worry about touching it.

Driftwood Bar

On the way to Seacret Beach, you can find a classy hotel, which has an infinity pool overlooking another stunning blue cove. The hotel called ‘Driftwood Bar’ and we can definitely recommend stopping for a smoothie and enjoying the pool on your way to Secret Beach.

Secret Beach Nusa Ceningan

You have to walk your way through a labyrinth of hedges along the coast to finally arrive at a lookout over Secret Beach.

BEACHES AND ACTIVITIES NUSA PENIDA

Kelingking ‘T-Rex’

The Instagram famous coastal cliffscape, which truly does look like a T-Rex didn’t disappoint. You can take a short trek down the spine of the T-Rex and take in the epic drop-offs down each side. This is definitely a great thing to do on Nusa Penida and is just one of those landscapes that make you feel small. Kelingking actually translates into English meaning Pinkie a term referencing the smallest finger on the hand.

Manta Bay

If you are keen on swimming with giant Manta Ryas as is a popular thing to do on Nusa Penida.

Crystal Bay Beach Nusa Penida

You can relax at the bay or take a boat who takes you 100 years out into the bay and enjoy the crystal clear water you would expect at Crystal bay.

Angel’s Billabong

It is one of the magical spots you cant help but marvel at. A crystal clear tide pool cascades into the ocean on the east coast of Nusa Penida. Out in that ocean, Manta Rays cruise the coast at leisure. As with all tidal pools you need to arrive at the right time of the day. If you visit Angel’s Billabong during high-tide you will experience a very different pool than the one you see in photos. You will need to check the tide using a site like Magic Seaweed. Once you figure out when the low tide is, you should plan your itinerary around that. The Billabong is a remarkable formation. The crystal clear water allows you to see the patterns and textures beneath the surface.

Manta Ray Viewpoint

As you finish up at Angel’s Billabong it is common to walk around the corner to Broken Beach. The walk only takes 5 minutes but halfway through the journey is an archway made of trees. When you reach this archway don’t go through immediately! Head up the hill towards the coast on your right and look down into the ocean. This is where the Giant Manta Rays hang out.

Broken Beach

Is an incredible little cove on Nusa Penida island. The highlight of the cove and the reason it is called Broken Beach is due to the archway that wraps around the bay allowing water to flow in and out from the ocean. Unfortunately, there is no way down into the cove for a refreshing dip although you can get in the water at Angel’s Billabong around the corner.

Thousand Island (Pulau Seribu) Viewpoint

There are huge drop-offs here so the fences are to keep tourists safe! To ge to the first viewpoint you need to climb down the steep stairway for about 10 minutes. The view is incredible.

Kelingking Beach

After trekking down the stairs you will find another set of even steeper stairs on your right, which lead to the beach. When we reached the bottom of the stairs and hit the sand the waves were insane. It is a shore-break beach and the waves were barreling and dumping. This isn’t a beach for novice swimmers and the sets came out of nowhere. Please don’t swim if you aren’t 100% sure you can handle the conditions.

Kelingking Cliff Lookout

Here is a great little tip for enjoying Kelingking Secret Point Beach from a unique angle. Instead of hiking down the stairs, head to the right along the cliffs. There is a worn path along the cliff edge but no railing so be careful. Here you can find multiple epic viewpoints, with arguably a better look at the beach than the hike. It’s an awesome spot for sunset and doesn’t involve any hiking for those of you out there looking for the easy option. Definitely one of the best sunset spots on the island of Nusa Penida and a unique angle of Kelingking Secret Point Beach.

Nusa Penida Tree House (Rumah Pohon)

The Tree House (Rumah Pohon) on Nusa Penida has become something of a craze. It is perched up on the mountain at Thousand Island (Pulau Seribu) viewpoint near Atuh Beach.

Banah Cliffs

It is another epic viewpoint on Nusa Penida. The view down the coast at Banah is striking. The cliffs are known as a great sunset spot just like Kelingking, which is just down the road.

Korawa Beach Viewpoint

On the right-hand side of Atuh Beach is a staircase that leads up the hill. The viewpoint is next to Atuh Beach but looks out over the bay next door. You can get the Atuh Beach view from both sides. This is just an epic little spot we stumbled upon and it’s a pretty epic viewpoint though so when you are at Atuh Beach definitely get up to this side of the beach and check it out.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING WHEN CLIFF JUMPING:

Always do a depth check and a debris check before jumping.  Even if you have read online it is safe, the conditions may have changed.  Make sure you check for any driftwood, reef, loose rocks and of course the depth of the water.

  • —Know your limits. Make sure you push yourself but not too far.  If you have never done a backflip before, obviously start small not when you get to the edge of a 10 metre cliff.
  •
  • —Make sure you check the water conditions. If you are jumping into the ocean, be sure to have an exit route planned and be careful of getting stuck out in the ocean waiting for a set to finish if it is in a region of a big swell.
  •
  • —Just be smart. If your intuition tells you it is a bit risky, just give it a pass.  Don’t risk your life for a cliff jump.  Plenty of people get hurt or even lose their life around tide pools, rock pools and cliff jumps every year.  Play smart.
